Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department - Fire Safety
We are dedicated to the safety and well-being of our community through a strong fire prevention program. Our team of trained professionals works hard to ensure that your family, home, and business stay safe in case of an emergency.
At Winfield CVFD, we believe that prevention is the key to saving lives. Our mission is to reduce the risk of fire and increase awareness through educational programs, community outreach, and hands-on safety measures. One of the core components of our fire prevention program is offering free smoke alarm installations in our first-due area to ensure every home is protected.
Fire Prevention Program
Why is Fire Prevention Important?
- Early detection saves lives. Smoke alarms alert you to fire and give you time to escape safely.
- Protect your loved ones. Fire safety should be a top priority for every household, and proper installation of smoke alarms is one of the most effective ways to protect your family.
- Reducing fire risks. Our team educates residents on fire safety, home fire hazards, and how to create an emergency escape plan.

We Offer Free Smoke Alarm Installs in Our First Due Area!

Smoke Alarm Information
Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years or when the manufacturer suggests replacement. Remember to test your smoke alarms monthly and to vacuum them because they too can build up dust.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Devices
The Fire and Burn Safety Coalition of Maryland (FABSCOM) offers free bed shakers to those that can not afford one. You must be deaf or extremely hard of hearing in order to qualify for one of these devices. This device works with a regular smoke alarm. The request form and requirements are located on this website under the Safe Awake Request tab or visit www.fabscom.org.
