On Wednesday August 9th at 6:54p.m. units from Winfield and surrounding fire departments were alerted for a reported house fire in the 2700 Block of Nicodemus Road. Winfield's Medic 149 was the first to arrive to find a two story detached garage well involved with fire.
Chief 14 (G. Dods) arrived and established command. A Tanker Task Force and Rapid Intervention Dispatch was requested. Winfield's Engine 141 arrived and quickly deployed several hand lines to protect the exterior of the adjacent house and confine the fire to the garage structure. A water supply fill site was setup up at the Bloom Road bridge mounted dry fire hydrant to support the tanker shuttle. Tower 3 was setup and utilized to finish extinguishing the remaining fire on the second floor since the structure was not safe for firefighters to enter.
The fire was brought under control by 7:25p.m. and units remained on the scene until after 9:00p.m. performing overhaul and assisting the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
