On Sunday, June 21, many gathered to watch the 36th Annual Miss Fire Prevention Contest at the Convention Center in Ocean City, MD.
Nine girls competed for the title:
Melissa Coroneos, representing Baltimore County, Megan McCulley, representing Talbot County, Caitlin Lipscomb, representing Harford County, Sarah Bowles, representing Maryland Fire Chief’s Association, Casey English, representing Wicomico County, Sierra Smallwood, representing Washington County, Gabrielle Kerby, representing Harford-Cecil Firemen’s Association, Michaella Patrick, representing Cecil County and Susan Hilton, representing Montgomery County.
The contestants met with the judges earlier in the day to present the topics they wish to focus on, as well as have a personal interview with them. On stage, they answered two questions in front of the entire audience.
While the judges deliberated, outgoing Miss Fire Preventions Brittany Hill and Stacey Holden gave their farewell speeches.
Gabrielle Kerby was named First Runner-Up and Susan Hilton was named MSFA Miss Fire Prevention 2015-2016. Congratulations to all on a job well done.

Safe Kids-Risk Watch Program has a new location – Exhibit Hall D is their new and future home during the convention. On Sunday, we set up the 10 learning displays that included dialing 911, home fire safety, water safety, trauma, car seats, distracted driving, etc. Scouts that completed all of the stations can take back their punch card and receive their safety badge from their Scout group.

On Tuesday, Winfield was one of 80 departments that received their grant certificate for pre-selected merchandise from Alert-All. The check and certificate were immediately mailed in, hopefully the material arrives before carnival.

Winfield also received plaques for both of our fire prevention books; placing 4th overall.
