| As part of EMS Week MIEMSS presented its annual Maryland EMS Awards today in Annapolis, MD. The program book summarizes the individuals contributions as follows:
Morgan Alder received an award for making significant contributions to fire prevention in her community. During the 2012 MD Fire Chief's Junior Miss Fire Prevention competition, Morgan made a presentation on visual smoke alarms for the hearing impaired. She has participated in meetings, fundraisers, parades and volunteered her time to help install and change smoke alarm batteries through Winfield's free smoke alarm program. Morgan was nominated by Debbie Gartrell-Kemp.
Natalie Wilson received an award for making an impressive presentation on dangers of novelty lighters during the Junior Miss Winfield Fire Prevention competition in 2011. In 2012, Natalie was crowned the MSFA's Junior Miss fire Prevention for the North Central Region. She continued to make presentations about the dangers of novelty lighters and helped teach fire prevention in local schools, during Winfield's Open House, and at other local events. Natalie was nominated by Debbie Gartrell-Kemp.
Debbie Gartrell-Kemp won the Maryland EMS for Children Award for outstanding record of involvement in fire prevention, fire safety, and education at the Winfield Fire Department and in the community, Carroll County, and across Maryland. Her accomplishments are substantial and includes teaching fire prevention to local children. Her commitment to fire prevention and life safety are remarkable, as is her enthusiasm and dedication to her community, especially its children. Past Chief Tim Warner served as Debbie's representative in the absence of Chief Zach Schneider.
