Dry Hydrant Testing
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Fire Lieutenant Mark Davis
July 23, 2012

Crews have be working over the last couple months to complete the annual flow-testing of dry hydrants located throughout Winfield VFD's first-due area. Dry fire hydrants play an important role in the delivery of fire protection services in the Winfield response area and testing the dry hydrants helps to ensure their operational readiness.

There are several types of dry hydrants in Winfield's response area: bridge-mounted dry hydrants, underground tanks/cisterns, and what the FD calls the "traditional style" with a pipe buried in a pond.

The annual flow test also includes an inspection of the dry hydrant before actually connecting a pumper and flowing water. When a deficiency occurs, the owner of the dry hydrant is notified so that repairs can be made.

Property owners interested in having a dry fire hydrant installed should contact the Winfield VFD and ask to speak with the Fire Chief.
